Nunez gets the game underway for Uruguay!
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the World Cup Group H meeting between Portugal and Uruguay at the Lusail Iconic Stadium!
Portugal have the opportunity to qualify for the round of 16 with a game to spare if they win here today. They held on to record a 3-2 victory over Ghana in their opening match in the tournament, with Cristiano Ronaldo becoming the first player to score in five different World Cups during that game. It was a more frustrating start for Uruguay, who hit the woodwork twice during their 0-0 draw with South Korea on Thursday. However, the last meeting between these sides was in 2018, when the South American side won 2-1 in the round of 16 to knock Portugal out of the World Cup.
PORTUGAL STARTING XI (4-3-3): Diogo Costa; Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias, Pepe, Nuno Mendes; Bernardo Silva, Ruben Neves, William Carvalho; Bruno Fernandes, Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix.
PORTUGAL SUBS: Diogo Dalot, Vitinha, Raphael Guerreiro, Goncalo Ramos, Jose Sa, Rafael Leao, Joao Mario, Ricardo Horta, Antonio Silva, Joao Palhinha, Matheus, Andre Silva, Rui Patricio.
URUGUAY STARTING XI (3-5-2): Sergio Rochet; Sebastian Coates, Diego Godin, Jose Gimenez; Guillermo Varela, Federico Valverde, Matias Vecino, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mathias Olivera; Darwin Nunez, Edinson Cavani.
URUGUAY SUBS: Sebastian Sosa, Lucas Torreira, Facundo Torres, Jose Rodriguez, Facundo Pellistri, Maxi Gomez, Martin Caceres, Nicolas de la Cruz, Giorgian de Arrascaeta, Matias Vina, Fernando Muslera, Agustin Canobbio, Luis Suarez, Manuel Ugarte.
The teams are out on the pitch, the national anthems have been sung, and kick-off is just moments away!
Santos was a frustrated figure on the touchline as his side struggled to create anything of real note. He'll be looking for a much better performance in the second half, and might look to his bench to inspire them. Uruguay have soaked up the pressure well and arguably, should be ahead. Alonso will be hoping for more of the same but will be urging for a more clinical edge.
Portugal are into the round of 16 with a game to spare, and will just need a point against South Korea to finish top of the group in their final match. Uruguay can still qualify for the knockout rounds, but they'll need to beat Ghana and hope South Korea don't win.
