We are underway in this LaLiga clash between Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo!
Hello and welcome to live coverage of the 2018-19 LaLiga season as Atletico Madrid host Celta Vigo at Wanda Metropolitano.
Fran Escriba has meanwhile taken seven points from his first five games at the helm and will hope to spring a surprise as he looks to stave off relegation with his club. The former Villarreal boss is back in management for the first time since 2017 but isn’t looking too rusty in the dugout.
With defeat to Barcelona last week effectively signalling the likely end of their title challenge, Diego Simeone’s side will be looking to finish the season on a high at the very least as they come home to Madrid. They’ll have to do so without Diego Costa however who has been slapped with an eight-match ban for insulting a referee.
Subs: Nikola Kalinic, Santiago Arias, Nehuen Perez, Alvaro Morata, Victor Mollejo, Gustavo Assuncao, Antonio Adan.
ATLETICO MADRID (4-4-2): Jan Oblak; Juanfran, Toni Moya, Francisco Montero, Filipe Luis; Vitolo, Rodrigo, Saul Niguez, Koke; Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa.
Atletico ring a host of changes with Costa, Thomas and Jose Gimenez all out through suspension. Angel Correa gets the nod up front while Juanfran has been drafted in at the back.
Subs: David Costas, Jozabed Sanchez, Fran Beltran, Mathias Jensen, Pione Sisto, Andrew Hjulsager, Sergio Alvarez.
CELTA VIGO (4-2-3-1): Ruben Blanco; Hugo Mallo, Gustavo Cabral, Nestor Araujo, Lucas Olaza; Stanislav Lobotka, Okay Yokuslu; Emre Mor, Ryad Boudebouz, Sofiane Boufal; Maxi Gomez.
The teams are out at Wanda Metropolitano and we’re moments away from kick-off.
Neither manager will be hugely downtrodden with those performances there, though Diego Simeone might have wanted his side to convert their chances at a greater ratio. There probably won’t be too many changes to the game plan though.
It’s a trip to Eibar next up for Atletico in a week while Celta head home to host Girona in LaLiga. Until then however, thank you for joining us – and have a great weekend!
There’s plenty in that performance for Fran Escriba to take heart from too, even if they went down by two goals in the end. With a handful of games left, their top flight fate remains in their own hands – and on this basis, they should have the quality to survive the relegation battle.
