We're underway at Goodison Park.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Everton and Wolves at Goodison Park.
Everton secured a much needed win over Huddersfield during the week, battling to a 1-0 victory even with 10 men. Richarlison put the Toffees ahead in the third minute, but the result was put in jeopardy when Lucas Digne was sent off. However, they were able to hold out for the three points. Pressure was beginning to build on Marco Silva following a poor run of results and the club's exit from the FA Cup. Beating Wolves today would lift Everton in seventh place in the table, although their points tally is way below what would have been expected at the start of the campaign.
It will be easier said than done for the Toffees' given the form of Wolves this season. Nuno Espirito Santo's men have lost only one out of their last five matches in all competitions, which came against Manchester City. They brushed aside West Ham United during the week, securing a double over the Hammers. The Midlands outfit tend to save their best away performances for the big occasion and they will be up for the fight this afternoon.
EVERTON (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane, Kurt Zouma, Leighton Baines; Tom Davies, Andre Gomes; Theo Walcott, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Cenk Tosun.
SUBS: James McCarthy, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bernard, Maarten Stekelenburg, Daniel Calver-Lewin, Ademola Lookman, Jonjoe Kenny.
SUBS: Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa, Morgan Gibbs-White, John Ruddy, Romain Saiss, Adama Traore, Cameron John.
Wolves take a 2-1 lead into the break over Everton at Goodison Park. Ruben Neves put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot after Leighton Baines dragged down Matt Doherty in the box. The Portuguese slotted his effort into the bottom corner with ease. Marco Silva's men responded with a rocket from Andre Gomes, who found the top corner with a stunning strike. However, a lapse before the break handed Wolves the lead once again as Michael Keane gave away a needlees free-kick. Joao Moutinho picked out Raul Jimenez and the forward made no mistake with his close-range header.
Marco Silva will be a concerned man at the interval. His side have been outplayed by the visitors and only through Gomes' stunner are they in the game. It has been a fine display on the road thus far from Wolves. Nuno Espirito Santo will be pleased, but he will be looking for his team to finish the job.
Life does not get easier for Everton, facing off against Manchester City next week at Goodison Park. Wolves take on Newcastle in their next Premier League outing at Molineux in nine days.
Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
