Bernard is shown a yellow card for a rash and petulant challenge.
90' +2
Digne plays the set-piece into the box for Niasse who sends his chance over the crossbar.
90' +1
R. Snodgrass gets yellow.
Robert Snodgrass is shown a yellow card for a crunching tackle on Bernard which gives Everton a free-kick in a great position to cross.
90'
The referee indicates an additional five minutes at the end of the match!
88'
West Ham have a corner which they are using to drain every possible second from the match. Expectedly, the set-piece is taken short and immediately put out off an Everton player for a throw.
84'
NIASSE STRIKES THE BAR! Digne puts a rushed cross in from the left which somehow manages to find Niasse all alone. The striker takes his chance with a first-time volley, but it smashes off the underside of the crossbar and bounces out – away from the line.
82'
R. Snodgrass enters the game and replaces A. Yarmolenko.
Two-goal hero Andriy Yarmolenko makes way with nine minutes remaining – with Robert Snodgrass coming in to replace him.
81'
Kenny puts a fantastic cross in from the right which forces Fabianski to come a long way out of his goal to intervene. The play is blown dead regardless as Lookman is unable to keep onside before the delivery.
77'
A. Lookman enters the game and replaces T. Walcott.
Everton’s final substitution sees the removal of Theo Walcott who was one of Everton’s brighter outlets. Ademola Lookman comes on to replace him.
Minute
Description
76'
Sigurdsson takes it but it cannons off the well-placed wall, much to the dismay of Yarmolenko who seems to have taken the brunt of the strike’s force in his face.
75'
D. Rice gets yellow.
It’s a yellow card for Declan Rice who takes Walcott down just outside the penalty area in a central position. It’s poised for Sigurdsson who stands over it…
73'
Holgate looks to play the ball down the right for Walcott, but it’s a lazy, weak and misguided pass which is intercepted easily by the West Ham midfield who take the ball straight down the other way and win a throw-in close to Pickford’s goal.
71'
C. Sánchez enters the game and replaces M. Noble.
Carlos Sanchez is introduced to add some solidity to the midfield. Mark Noble makes way for him.
69'
O. Niasse enters the game and replaces C. Tosun.
Cenk Tosun is done for the day, with Marco Silva looking to influence the game by introducing Oumar Niasse.
66'
Calvert-Lewin gets inside the West Ham penalty area but he is unable to work some space in which to fashion a shot. He is dispossessed by one of the many surrounding defenders, but the ball falls to Tosun who turns and fires well-wide of the goal.
64'
M. Antonio enters the game and replaces M. Arnautović.
Manuel Pellegrini’s worst fears are realised as he is forced to remove Marko Arnautovic from the action – choosing Michail Antonio has his replacement.
63'
Play is stopped as Arnautovic is down receiving treatment on his right leg only moments after putting his side up 3-1. Pellegrini can’t afford to lose his most influential player – regardless of the score.
61'
M. Arnautović has scored a goal for West Ham United! Assist by Pedro Obiang.
Pedro Obiang has been lovely in his interchanges all match - and he gets a second of the day for his efforts.
ARNAUTOVIC RESTORES WEST HAM’S TWO-GOAL LEAD! Marko Arnautovic plays a pass to Obiang at the top of the penalty area and the midfielder puts a wonderful return through the heart of the defence where Arnautovic latches on and slips it past Pickford! 3-1 West Ham!
59'
Masuaku and Anderson interchange beautifully which gets the left-back free before putting a cross to the far post for Yarmolenko. Somewhat dangerously, Digne stoops low and uses his chest to play the ball back to Pickford who grabs with both hands despite pressure from the West Ham forward.
57'
Sigurdsson takes a dangerous corner to Calvert-Lewin but Diop defends well. The ball falls to Digne who has a crack on the volley but it pings around in the penalty area off of a couple West Ham defenders before being sent far down the pitch.
55'
Everton feel they should be given a penalty after Obiang’s shove in the penalty area sends Sigurdsson to the floor has he chases a Bernard cross. The referee disagrees and instructs play to continue.
53'
P. Zabaleta gets yellow.
Now it’s Zabaleta who takes down Bernard after the diminutive Brazil attacker gets by the full-back with a nifty touch. The free-kick is centred to Gueye who plays a ball in for Digne – the left-back miscuing his touch as Yarmolenko ducks out of the way.
51'
A. Yarmolenko gets yellow.
Anderson dances around two Everton defenders in the penalty area and slips a pass through to Obiang who turns and fires quickly – missing the target entirely.
Andriy Yarmolenko is shown a yellow card after tugging Bernard down by holding his jersey, and having a nibble at the back of his ankle. A deserved booking.
50'
Arnautovic falls to the floor after seemingly taking Holgate’s elbow to his face. Felipe Anderson takes the free-kick on the left short and the ball is returned to the West Ham defence where they will build up again.
48'
Everton don’t stop play despite Walcott going down at the top of the penalty area. Masuaku comes across to boot the ball out for a throw which allows the former Arsenal winger the time to climb to his feet and begin jogging gingerly. Hopefully, he shakes off the knock relatively soon as Everton only have two substitutions remaining.
46'
West Ham get the second half started!
45' +3
HALF TIME: EVERTON 1-2 WEST HAM.
45' +2
G. Sigurðsson has scored a goal for Everton! Assist by J. Kenny.
The cross from Kenny is absolutely inch-perfect - deserving of Sigurdsson's great finish.
SIGURDSSON STEALS ONE BEFORE THE BREAK! It’s a simple move as Everton shift the ball from left to right before Jonjoe Kenny puts in a wonderful cross which meets the head of Gylfi Sigurdsson who beats the former Swansea goalkeeper with wonderful accuracy! 2-1!
45'
The referee indicates an additional two minutes at the end of the first half.
44'
Bernard enters the game and replaces M. Schneiderlin.
Interesting decision from Marco Silva who makes a first-half substitution, taking Morgan Schneiderlin off and putting Bernard on the pitch. It’s not apparent whether the change is enforced due to injury, or tactical – but Everton certainly need all the help they can get in attack.
43'
Bernard seems to be warming up on the touchline which seems strange considering there is only five minutes left in the first half. Could he really be thinking about making a tactical change inside the first 45?
41'
Sigurdsson takes the free-kick low and towards goal with a sneaky strike but Fabianski stoops to his knees and makes the save.
40'
A. Masuaku gets yellow.
Everton are furious as they believe they should be awarded a penalty for an awful Masuaku challenge in which he puts his studs on the neck of Walcott during an aerial duel. The referee only gives Masuaku a yellow – which is a curious decision to say the least – and gives Everton a free-kick just outside the right-hand corner of the penalty area.
37'
Tosun walks into the box and walks towards Fabianski before firing a shot which is put directly at the goalkeeper and lacking any real power. A wasted chance despite the Turkey striker having options to both his left and right.
36'
Walcott takes a somewhat questionable volleyed shot from the right wing but manages to give Fabianski all kinds of trouble, forcing the goalkeeper to tip it just over. Sigurdsson’s delivery from the corner is dangerous, but nobody in a blue shirt can put it towards goal.
35'
Kenny gets forward for one of the first times today, but the ball runs too far away and Fabianski can collect for a fortunate goal-kick.
33'
Well he is certainly stealing the show in his second start for the Hammers – as Yarmolenko has scored both his side’s goals today, despite doing relatively little else. He has popped up in the right moments to make the decisive contribution – which should be more than enough for Manuel Pellegrini.
31'
A. Yarmolenko has scored a goal for West Ham United! Assist by M. Noble.
That goal showed the best of Mark Noble, winning possession in midfield and seeing the field well to make a great assisting pass.
WHAT A HIT FROM YARMOLENKO TO MAKE IT 2-0 WEST HAM! Following an Everton give-away, Yarmolenko receives a pass from Noble on the right and cuts inside, curling a wonderful hit with his left foot into the top corner of Pickford’s goal. 2-0 for the visitors!
29'
Walcott gets into a good position on the right flank but his cross is poor and fails to beat the first defender, and West Ham can clear – though the clearance is more of a long ball towards Arnautovic in space. Pickford comes a long way out of his goal to boot the ball into touch.
27'
Holgate looks to play it long but instead cuts it short to Schneiderlin, but horribly misplaces his pass. Luckily for the home faithful, West Ham use their throw-in to give the ball directly back to Everton through Sigurdsson.
25'
Digne whips a cross into the box from the left after getting around Yarmolenko and places it beautifully between Balbuena and Diop for Tosun – but Fabianski makes the point-blank save!
24'
Everton are really missing a creative force at the top of the pitch with the absence of Richarlison. Walcott has been lively on the right, but he tends to be very rushed and nervous in possession. Despite his age, the recently capped Brazil forward provides a level of calm and coolness in front of goal.
22'
Schneiderlin goes into a sliding challenge on Obiang which is incredibly over-zealous. West Ham send the ball into the box for Arnautovic but he falls under pressure from Holgate – never a penalty though despite the striker’s protestations.
20'
West Ham’s passing is buying them a lot of time and space in midfield, with Everton’s press seemingly disjointed. Schneiderlin finally wins possession but launches it long – and it ends up in the hands of Fabianski. A wasted chance to press forward by the home side on that occasion.
18'
D. Calvert-Lewin gets yellow.
West Ham win a free-kick in midfield after Noble is taken down, with Calvert-Lewin the recipient of the yellow card.
16'
How will Everton respond at home after going a goal behind? Despite starting the match well, West Ham’s counter-attack easily sliced through the defence, which should be a worry for Silva. It’s a makeshift back line due to a raft of injuries – but they should be more resolute.
13'
Balbuena has looked wonderful today in defence, confidently striding out to win possession, or make the necessary clearance. Despite his age, he seems quite poised which is doubly impressive considering West Ham are the away side.
11'
A. Yarmolenko has scored a goal for West Ham United! Assist by M. Arnautović.
ANDRIY YARMOLENKO MAKES IT 1-0 WEST HAM! The visitors hit quickly on the counter after Balbuena wins possession in midfield. Masuaku then plays a lovely ball over the top for Arnautovic who squares it intelligently for Yarmolenko to tap home!
A very selfless assist for Marko Arnautovic – who has been involved in every West Ham goal this season.
9'
Gueye miscues a shot after the ball comes to him at the top of the box following a cleared Everton corner, allowing Noble to clear the danger.
7'
Noble can’t get the ball out of his feet to continue the attack, so he opts to just send it to the right where he can’t find Zabaleta – gifting Everton a throw in midfield.
5'
Gueye sprays it out to the left for Digne whose header down for Calvert-Lewin is cleared away for a throw-in by Balbuena. The Everton left-back is really showing promise in the early stages of this game, troubling West Ham frequently in attack.
3'
Digne has a strike from a long way out but doesn’t trouble Fabianski. It’s been a good start for the home side who look confident.
1'
Everton get the match underway from the kick-off!
To say that West Ham’s start to life under Manuel Pellegrini has been slow would be an understatement. The table tells its own story: four matches into the season and the Hammers have not registered a single point. Their most recent loss before the international break was a heart-breaking last-second defeat to Wolves thanks to a 93rd-minute Adama Traore stunner.
Silva will have a difficult time today with his team sheet, as he has no less than nine first-team players out injured – including three of the Toffees’ first-choice centre-backs: Phil Jagielka, Michael Keane and Yerry Mina. The absences also extend to the other end of the pitch, with Richarlison serving the final game of his ban. The manager will have to be creative in his decisions to succeed against a West Ham side who find themselves up against a wall.
Good evening and welcome to our LIVE commentary of the Premier League fixture between Everton and West Ham at Goodison Park in Liverpool.
They’ve spent the money, they’ve brought in some high-profile names, but something still seems to be missing from an Irons side who – after Everton – will face Chelsea and Manchester United next in the Premier League. If the former Manchester City manager can’t start putting results on the board soon – his reign at the London Stadium may be a short one.
Everton Starting XI (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford; Lucas Digne, Kurt Zouma, Mason Holgate, Jonjoe Kenny; Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye; Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Theo Walcott; Cenk Tosun.
With 15 minutes to go before kick-off, the team news has been confirmed! Let's start with the home side!
West Ham Substitutes: Angelo Ogbonna, Aaron Cresswell, Carlos Sanchez, Lucas Perez, Robert Snodgrass, Adrian, Michail Antonio.
West Ham Starting XI (4-3-3): Lukasz Fabianski; Pablo Zabaleta, Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop; Arthur Masuaku; Mark Noble, Declan Rice, Pedro Obiang; Andriy Yarmolenko, Marko Arnautovic, Felipe Anderson.
Manuel Pellegrini makes six changes from the side that lost 1-0 to Wolves before the international break. Experienced full-backs Pablo Zabaleta and Arthur Masuaku take the places of Ryan Fredericks and Aaron Cresswell, while in midfield Mark Noble and Declan Rice start over Carlos Sanchez and an injured Jack Wilshere. Pedro Obiang will also sit in midfield instead of Robert Snodgrass and in attack, Andriy Yarmolenko gets into the XI instead of Michael Antonio.
The home side have looked very poor in the first half despite a promising start. Going down 1-0 early surely did not help their cause and Yarmolenko’s second – a wonderful curled effort – caused even more confusion amongst the home ranks. Walcott and Digne have been Everton’s brightest performers in the first half – though that isn’t saying much. However, Sigurdsson finally made his mark with a wonderfully taken header just before the half-time whistle, which keeps Everton in this match despite the lack of attacking thrust.
To be honest, West Ham haven’t been incredible either despite their lead. Yarmolenko has popped up with the goods twice, but was a relative non-factor otherwise. Balbuena has looked extremely secure at centre-back, and Mark Noble has been his typical workhorse self – winning possession and distributing it to Yarmolenko for the second goal.
Marco Silva’s impact has been immediate – with Everton avoiding defeat in each of their first four games. Their six points accrued from those matches are good enough to see the Toffees sit in ninth place; however a win today would take them to the giddy heights of sixth – and in a tie with Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United.
Marco Silva makes two changes from the side that earned a draw at Goodison Park against Huddersfield Town. Jonjoe Kenny replaces Seamus Coleman at right-back, the latter recently sustaining a foot injury which will keep him out of action for a couple weeks. In midfield, Idrissa Gueye is introduced alongside Schneiderlin – which drops Tom Davies to the bench.
Next up for Everton is a trip to the Emirates Stadium where they visit Arsenal. West Ham are back at home in a week’s time when they host Chelsea.
West Ham climb out of the relegation zone with this win – and buys Manuel Pellegrini a little bit more time. Yarmolenko’s first-half double was added to by Arnautovic 15 minutes after the restart but the striker went off shortly after with an injury – a rather dark mark on an otherwise great day for the Hammers. It remains to be seen whether or not the damage will keep the striker out long-term, but for now, his side can be happy with their fully deserved victory.
It was a much more enjoyable second half of play, with both sides opening themselves up and looking to score. Everton showed a bit more endeavour but were ultimately lacking the quality necessary in front of goal to dig themselves out of a two-goal deficit. Sigurdsson looked a lot brighter and the introduction of Bernard before the half certainly helped the home side, but it goes down as a rather flat performance – and three points dropped.
That concludes our coverage of the Premier League fixture between Everton and West Ham! We hope you enjoyed it and see you all again soon!
