We're underway!
Good afternoon and welcome to our Live Text Commentary of Hoffenheim v Borussia Dortmund, in the final matchday of the Bundesliga season!
Hoffenheim head into this game desperate for 3 points, which should be enough to secure a top four spot unless Leverkusen are able to pull off an astronomical win against Hannover. Dortmund are all but confirmed to be playing Champions League football next season, it would require an unlikely swing in goal difference for any other outcome.
After a thrilling first half, both teams head down the tunnel currently sitting in the top 4. Nagelsmann will be pleased with his side's display whereas Dortmund have struggled at times during the first half and could easily be 2 goals down. The away side have also had chances, Guerreiro has been denied by Baumann a couple of times. Bring on the second half!
As things stand, Leverkusen are level on points with both Hoffenheim and Dortmund. Dortmund are in the safest position of the 3, as they have the superior goal difference. Leverkusen currently sit two goals behind Hoffenheim in that respect, so although the home side should manage to hold on, they'll definitely have to watch their backs until the end!
Dortmund XI (3-4-3) Roman Burki, Lukasz Piszczek, Julian Weigl, Manuel Akanji, Marcel Schmelzer, Marco Reus, Nuri Sahin, Raphael Guerreiro, Christian Pulisic, Andre Schurrle, Jadon Sancho. Hoffenheim have claimed 34 home points this term – only Bayern (44) have claimed more. They have won their last four in Sinsheim, scoring 14 goals, whilst conceding just once. Hoffenheim players and fans will be hoping they can keep this form up for the last 45 minutes of the season!
Hoffenheim finish third and Dortmund fourth, it must hurt for Leverkusen to miss out on goal difference though!
That's all from us today, all smiles here as both sides finish in the top four along with Bayern Munich and Schalke!
Great game overall, both sides displayed their attacking capabilities but the home side deserve their win! Strong performances from players such as Kramaric and Szalai accompanied by a determined team work ethic was enough to come out on top today. Dortmund were far from their best but they'll be back next season after dipping into the transfer market no doubt!
It's all over! Nagelsmann has led his side to Champions League football next season, going one step further than they did last year! Dortmund also qualify but it's likely they'll be under new management when we seem them next season. Leverkusen eventually fell behind in the race, conceding a second goal to Hannover. What a rollercoaster final day though! Although Dortmund and Hoffenheim never fell outside of the qualifying spots, both teams were in precarious positions at different points of the afternoon though!
