Portugal do their best to get the ball to Ronaldo, but despite Carvalho playing in Bernardo Silva to do just that, the playmaker can’t quite manage to find his captain.
90' +1
Danilo Pereira enters the game and replaces João Mário.
A final change for Portugal. Joao Mario makes way, with Danilo Pereira coming on.
90'
There will be a minimum of three minutes added time.
87'
Ronaldo sets off at full pace to try and get on the end of Moutinho’s flick, but Sommer is out quickly to smother the danger.
86'
Zuber tries to launch a cross in to the area, but Cedric gets across to make the block, sending the ball looping into the waiting arms of Patricio.
83'
Into the final 10 minutes of the qualifying campaign, now, and while Portugal are searching tirelessly for a third, Switzerland look to have given up the chase, settling for a spot in the play-offs.
81'
CHANCE! Well, that should have been 3-0! Ronaldo looked all set to get his goal after getting one-on-one with Sommer, but the Real Madrid man hesitates in taking his shot, and the Switzerland goalkeeper comes out on top.
80'
SAVE! Sommer has put in a fine display tonight despite being on the losing side, and he again reacts well to keep out Pepe’s effort.
79'
Again, Bernardo Silva is at the heart of a slick Portugal move, which eventually results in a corner. The former Monaco man has been in sparkling form tonight.
77'
Close for Ronaldo, as he almost gets on the end of Bernardo Silva’s terrific cross. A goal for Portugal’s captain is all that is needed to cap off an accomplished display from the hosts…

Description
75'
André Gomes enters the game and replaces André Silva.
Portugal are cruising to a victory here, and now Santos will make his second change, as goalscorer Andre Silva makes way. Barcelona’s Andre Gomes come on.
72'
Embolo has added a bit of urgency into Switzerland’s play, and the youngster plays a good ball into Seferovic, who wins a corner. But, Switzerland make nothing of it, and Portugal easily bring the ball out.
69'
D. Zakaria gets yellow.
Another ludicrously harsh call from the referee, who books Zakaria for a foul on Adrien Silva. Soft, to say the least!
68'
Antunes enters the game and replaces Eliseu.
Eliseu's race is run, as he makes way for the more defensive-minded Antunes.
67'
CLOSE! A blistering strike from range from Shaqiri looks goal bound, but Seferovic stretches out a leg to try and help it on its way. However, his effort takes the ball just wide.
66'
B. Embolo enters the game and replaces A. Mehmedi.
S. Zuber enters the game and replaces B. Džemaili.
The second change sees Admir Mehmedi go off, with Schalke forward Breel Embolo coming on to inject some pace into Switzerland's attack.
A double change for Switzerland. First, Steven Zuber replaces Blerim Dzemaili.
63'
Another great run from Bernardo Silva, though this time it comes to nothing as the playmaker delays his pass for just a moment too long before he is bundled off the ball by Mehmedi.
60'
Switzerland need a miracle now, it seems. They are lacking any cutting edge up top, and Petkovic must now be looking to roll the dice with some attacking changes.
57'
André Silva has scored a goal for Portugal! Assist by Bernardo Silva.
It was a wonderful team move from Santos’ side, with Bernardo Silva the architect throughout. The Manchester City playmaker has grown into this game and was at his best for that goal.
GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLL!!! SUPERB FROM PORTUGAL! That is sensational play from the hosts. After a patient passing move, Moutinho’s throughball finds Bernardo Silva, who in turn slides a pinpoint slide-rule pass into his namesake Andre. The Milan striker takes a fine first touch, before squeezing in a finish past the despairing Sommer.
55'
Finally, a sighting of goal for Ronaldo. He picks up the ball from Bernardo Silva in a dangerous, central position, but his left-footed strike is wayward, and Sommer is not forced into action.
53'
Commanding goalkeeping from Sommer, as the Switzerland man bursts from his line to punch clear a dangerous cross. Moments later, Ronaldo gets down the left, but is ushered out of play by the experienced Lichtsteiner.
51'
Shaqiri curls in a low shot, but Patricio is able to make a comfortable save, and the Switzerland defenders that had piled forward to get into the area have to trudge back towards their own goal.
50'
Cynical play from Carvalho, who drags down Lichtsteiner. The Juventus defender gets the free-kick, but asks for a booking, and in all fairness it would have been deserved. The referee is having none of it though.
48'
Zakaria looks to make an immediate impact with a driving run to the line, but he is shrugged off the ball by Eliseu.
46'
D. Zakaria enters the game and replaces R. Freuler.
A first change of the game, as Switzerland midfielder Remo Freuler, who was booked in the first half, makes way for Denis Zakaria.
We're back underway in Lisbon...
45' +1
Eliseu gets yellow.
A caution now for Eliseu, who lunged in recklessly on Shaqiri, shoving the Stoke player down in the process.
44'
Frueler is perhaps lucky not to pick up a second yellow, there. He clearly handled, but this time the official - who harshly deemed Frueler’s earlier handball a booking - lets him off the hook on this occasion.
43'
As it stands, then, Portugal lead the group courtesy of their superior goal difference, meaning they would secure automatic qualification. Plenty of time remaining in this one, though…
41'
J. Djourou is unfortunate, scores an own goal!
GOOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!! Heartbreak for Switzerland, as Portugal take the lead. It is Djourou who will be credited with the own goal, after Sommer rushes out to parry away Eliseu’s brilliant cross. The goalkeeper dives in bravely at the feet of Mario, and the ball somehow squeezes between the pair of them before deflecting in off the unfortunate Djourou.
39'
Ronaldo tries his luck with a strike from the edge of the area. The ball deflects off Schar, clipping Rodriguez’s arm on the way down. Switzerland’s left-back knew little about it though, and despite Ronaldo’s appeals to the contrary, the referee rightly allows play to go on.
37'
Portugal have just upped the pressure in recent moments, with Bernardo Silva starting to pull the strings. His pass plays Ronaldo through down the right, but although Portugal’s skipper gets to the line and lofts in a cross, Sommer is well place to intercept.
34'
Ronaldo is popping up all across Portugal’s front line at the moment but to little effect, and Switzerland will be delighted by that, as the 32-year-old is getting no luck in the central areas.
32'
SAVE! Top-class goalkeeping from Sommer, as he parries Andre Silva’s rasping strike over the bar.
31'
That’s an untidy challenge from Eliseu, and one that - on another day - may have resulted in a penalty after the full-back appeared to force Seferovic over. Portugal escape unscathed though, and quickly counter…
30'
Switzerland have executed their gameplan well so far, doing brilliantly in starving Portugal’s more talented players of possession. Bernardo Silva does manage to pull-off a moment of magic to play-in Cedric, but Schar and Djourou are quickly across to block the cross.
27'
R. Freuler gets yellow.
In fact, Freuler becomes the first player to pick up a booking, with the official deeming that the Switzerland midfielder had intentionally handled. It’s a ridiculous decision by the referee, who hasn’t had the best of it over the last few minutes.
25'
Dangerous from Andre Silva, who lunges in late and high on Djourou after the defender had cut out Ronaldo’s low cross. The referee does not deem it worth a card, but Djourou is left hobbling off the pitch.
22'
Apart from that early exhibit of skill, Ronaldo has hardly got himself involved so far. The Real Madrid star drops deep to pick up possession, only to then give away the ball with a sloppy pass.
20'
Portugal’s build-up play has been neat and tidy, but the host are really lacking in their final ball at the minute, and the crowd are already growing increasingly frustrated.
18'
The tempo is high and the effort has certainly been there from both sides, but the quality - so far - has been lacking in the final third. As I type, Moutinho aims to play Ronaldo in with a cross from the right, but gets the pass horribly wrong.
15'
Almost a sighting of goal for the visitors, as Mehmedi bursts through Portugal’s lines before cutting the ball back towards the penalty spot. Dzemaili had made a good run, but the ball was hit just behind him.
13'
A swift counter from Switzerland sees Rodriguez get down the left wing, winning a corner that the former Wolfsburg man then delivers. His cross, though, is overhit, and Portugal quickly regroup to force away the danger.
11'
Portugal are targeting the right side at the moment, with Cedric driving forward in support of Bernardo Silva. The Southampton man finds space to hurl in a cross, but his effort is poor and easily cleared.
8'
Switzerland are rather under the cosh here, though they are remaining steadfast. Bernardo Silva - spurred on by the incredible atmosphere inside the Stadium of Light - makes headway down Portugal’s right wing, but his eventual cross floats harmlessly out of play.
6'
Eliseu’s free-kick is a poor one, but Joao Mario wins it back and drives forward at pace. The Inter playmaker eventual feeds Andre Silva, whose strike deflects wickedly off a Switzerland defender. Sommer, though, reacts sharply to prevent the ball sneaking in at his near post.
5'
A first involvement in proceedings for Ronaldo, who - despite displaying an array of tricks and neat flicks on the edge of Switzerland's area - can't find a way through. Moments later, however, Shaqiri concedes a sloppy foul on the right flank, and Portugal now have an early opportunity...
3'
It really is two of Europe’s form sides going head-to-head this evening. Portugal’s last defeat was the 2-0 reverse to tonight’s opponents in the first round of qualifying fixtures. Since then, Santos’ side have won all eight of their competitive matches, with Switzerland doing likewise.

KICK OFF! We are up and running in what promises to be an enthralling encounter!
Seferovic attempts an audacious overhead kick from the edge of Portugal’s area, but it sails well wide. That's a waste from Switzerland's forward.
Hello and welcome to LIVE coverage of the winner-takes-all World Cup-qualifying clash between Portugal and Switzerland!
It's all come down to the final game in Group B, with Switzerland leading second-placed Portugal by three points, and the European Champions must claim a victory tonight if they are to secure a place in next year's showpiece in Russia.
Anything less than a win would mean a play-off place for Portugal, meaning that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi - whose Argentina side are in a perilous position in the South American qualification standings - may well be missing from the grandest of all football competitions.
Onto the team news, then. We’ll start off with the hosts…
It’s a traditional 4-4-2 from Fernando Santos, who will be hoping his side take the initiative with a fast-paced display from the off. The talismanic Ronaldo leads the line, with support from AC Milan’s Andre Silva, while Bernardo Silva and Joao Mario will look to cut inside from the flanks, enabling Portugal’s attack-minded full-backs - Cedric in particular - to flood forward.
Three changes in total from Switzerland boss Vladimir Petkovic, from the side that started in the 5-2 win over Hungary last time out. Fabian Frei, Steven Zuber and Francois Moubandje all drop to the bench, with first-team regulars Blerim Dzemaili, Admir Mehmedi and Ricardo Rodriguez all retuning to the fold.
Just minutes remain until kick-off now in Lisbon. Both sides are out, and the national anthem of Portugal is just about to get underway…
It is Portugal who have the lead in Lisbon then, with a moment of quality from Eliseu resulting in an incredibly unlucky own-goal from Djourou. Santos will now be looking for his side to press home their advantage after the interval, with another goal surely likely to be enough to see-off a Switzerland side who have, so far, shown little going forward.
That being said, Switzerland have won every one of their games in Group B so far for a reason, and they certainly have the quality to get back into this game and secure automatic qualification should any complacency set in to Portugal’s ranks.
FULL TIME: Portugal 2 Switzerland 0.
That’s all for now. Until next time, thank you and goodbye!
But Cristiano Ronaldo and co will indeed be at next year’s showpiece in Russia, as Portugal aim to follow-up their Euro 2016 triumph with a real run at the World Cup.
An accomplished, comprehensive display from Portugal, who secure automatic progression to the World Cup. Switzerland, meanwhile, have to settle for a play-off place at the culmination of what - up to this point - had been a stellar qualification campaign.
